Caitlin is the founder and director of The Greer Meister Group, a private tutoring and educational consulting practice. Her tutoring practice provides ongoing support for content mastery, cognitive flexibility, resilience, and academic independence and perseverance. The Greer Meister Group began as a passion project in 2008. Inspired by her work as an educator in New York City and her own experiences as a student at the Little Red School House, Stuyvesant High School, and Wesleyan University, Caitlin began to work one-on-one with students. Today, The Greer Meister Group’s team of passionate tutors works with students around the world. Caitlin’s son attends a microschool in Carroll Gardens and is zoned for PS 261 for K in 2019. After completing her master’s of science in Early Childhood Education at the Bank Street School of Education, Olivia Ramsey taught for ten years in New York, beginning at the Downtown Little School, moving on to the Lycée Français de New York, and finally ending up as one of the founding teachers of PS 58’s French Dual Language program in Carroll Gardens. She has also worked as a consultant for the French Embassy, aiding in the development of Brooklyn’s first French Dual Language International Baccalaureate program at the Boerum Hill School for International Studies in the fall of 2015.
In 2013, after the birth of her daughters, Olivia began tutoring privately. She opened Smith Street Workshop in February of 2015 to meet the growing demand for top-quality academic enrichment. The workshop now has a team of 25 teachers and tutors and works with nearly 700 students. In September, Smith Street Workshop will open a French-immersion preschool in Carroll Gardens. Olivia’s older daughter attends PS 321, and her younger daughter attends a microschool in Carroll Gardens.
Manisha has been a teacher for 15 years and worked with over 1000 students ages 0-18 in three different countries including conflict regions. While teaching in diverse learning environments, ranging from at-risk programs to some of the best and most expensive private schools in NYC, Manisha observed that the social, emotional piece is largely ignored for children at all levels. She also believes that technology has largely reduced the need for skills-based learning and increased the need for environments where students are given the support they need to pursue their own interests. In 2015, she founded CottageClass, a community marketplace for childhood education that offers independent teachers the opportunity to build and sustain microschools, extracurricular enrichment, summer camps, and other community-based programs for children ages 0-18. CottageClass provides quality learning environments for children, empowers teachers, and builds places where communities can gather. The mission of CottageClass is to provide quality, affordable education to every child in the world.
Jenni has been working with homeschool families for over a decade in a variety of capacities. Six years ago, she started homeschooling a 14 year old in NYC and quickly discovered that navigating the NYS regulations, while daunting, was not nearly as hard as she had anticipated. In fact, it was fun. Her background in childcare, the NYC public school system, and her own journey in navigating the educational system has led her to be a supporter of self-directed and alternative methods of education. Jenni is familiar with most educational philosophies and homeschool styles and currently works with families looking to hone their approach, perfect their paperwork, navigate next steps, or put together transcripts for further education. Jenni currently has a one year old at home and a baby on the way, both of whom will be World-schooled. You can learn more about her work with homeschoolers and the services she offers at NYHomeschoolHelp.com.
